The firefighter is required to work 24 hour shifts. These shifts will require firefighters to work weekends, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, callbacks, natural disasters, mandatory extended work hours and the like. Firefighters work any where between 9 to 11 twenty-four hour shifts monthly. You may be dispatched emergency responses at anytime during your tour of duty. Firefighters are also responsible for housekeeping, cooking duties, cleaning, yard maintenance, and other duties as assigned. |

A firefighter is required to wear personal protective equipment that weighs approximately 45-50 pounds while working an emergency scene and performing strenuous tasks. These tasks are performed under duress and in a variety of situations. Firefighters are also exposed to all types of weather conditions and situations. |

Firefighters working on a medical aid incident might encounter situations where they may have to lift and carry victims utilizing their back and leg muscles. |

Firefighters are required to have the ability to utilize numerous power and hand tools, many of which require good hand-eye coordination. |

Firefighters may have to work in confined spaces, steep inclines and cliffs, which have limited egress, and also in situations working off the top of a 110' aerial ladder. |

Firefighters must be able to distinguish colors and shapes, in order to determine the appropriate situation and/or hazard. |

|
|
|
Firefighters must have good vision and hearing. This is crucial when it comes to locating a trapped victim, or any other situation that warrants good hearing and vision. |

|
|
|
Firefighters must be able to follow and obey orders from superiors. |
