RECRUIT TRAINING

As a fire recruit you may be required to attend an academy type education program normally lasting an average of 3 months. While in the academy, recruits receive training in any or all of the following areas:
Fire fighting methods/fire command
Equipment operation and maintenance
Physical fitness
Fire science concepts
Fire apparatus
Defensive driving education, techniques and applications
Fire extinguisher and fog nozzle operation
Ladder usage
Salvage and overhaul operations
Fire fighting safety practices
Basic emergency medical procedures
Departmental rules and regulations
Fire service organization and chain of command

After successful completion of the training "academy", recruits are typically elevated in status, and placed in a probationary position as a probationary fire fighter assuming full responsibilities of said position.
